Article sites like Ezines will often swap sponsorships to lure more readers.

How the trades work is limited to the parties involved. Your priority will be the make sure that whichever site you trade with is relevant enough to your own that you’ll be attracting some segment of your customer base. Like any other deal, you’ll want to make sure that everyone involved has a clear understanding of the trade terms. Here are a few ways that use ad swaps to get some free text link ads.

A simple Google search will produce an extensive list of sites willing to exchange ads – many of which may be similar to yours. Contact the webmaster and clearly explain how a reciprocal trade can work for them. Don’t let a “no” distract you. In fact, you might even be surprised at how many say “yes.”

Banner Exchange

The concept of a banner exchange is as similar as it is different from a link swap. Essentially, two webmasters agree to put ads on each other’s sites (link a link exchange). However, banner exchanges offer the potential of having ads placed on thousands of different sites. Unlike link swaps, banner exchanges can result in having your ad rotate through numerous different sites.

Button Exchanges

A button exchange is comparable to a banner exchange in many ways, however; the main difference is in the size of the ad that’s exchanged. Buttons are typically smaller than banners. The end result is that they tend to have a high turnover rate, with very few of them really getting much use. Niche exchanges, webmaster related in particular, have been successful using the micro-button (88x31). Don’t let their size fool you. Micro-buttons can get a site more views and credits per page.

The exchange of text link ads is very similar to reciprocal link swapping. The difference is that there’s an entire Network of sites in which all members display text ads in exchange for credits that can be changed into ads that are then displayed on other sites.

Web Rings

A web ring is a group of sites linked to each other that are usually comprised of small to midsize sites that post on a variety of topics. Web rings can comprise of millions of sites. After starting up a web ring, the ring owner takes liability for drawing in and approving candidates. Those sites that have been approved are then included in the ring.

These are some of the ways that you can get free text ads placed on other sites. Be ready for some trial and error learning, and you’ll find   one that’s right for you.
